If you’re anything like me, you like to hang on to everything that brings back precious memories of important events in your life. Besides giving birth to my children, my wedding day was the most joyous and memorable occasion I’ve known. Therefore I held on to many wedding keepsakes to look back on and remember the day we shared with all our friends and family members as we joined our hands in marriage and began our new life together. Sometimes I bring out my little box filled with all the things I held on to the past ten years and I just sit and remember that beautiful summer day that we exchanged our vows.
I saved my brides planning book, where I jotted down everything I had arranged for my wedding and reception from the band to the caterers, it’s all listed in my little book. Along with my dress and veil, I have my beautifully arranged bouquet with the satin ribbons hanging from it, my garter and even the tiara I wore with my veil. As you can tell, I have more than just a little box of memories. Along with my guest list I have a keepsake wedding invitation, my wedding guest book and reception guestbook, not to mention wedding albums, and a wedding scrapbook, and of course my wedding cake topper. I have so many photos that I had to go out and buy three more albums to store them in. There are photos of every guest that attended our wedding ceremony and our reception, plus lots of photos of the flower girl, ring boy and the other members of our wedding party. These are all very important things to a woman, and I’m just glad I was able to hang on to them through these years to look back on and enjoy the memories.
My husband jokes with me all the time about how he should probably add on another room just for all of my keepsakes. I’ve saved everything from our champagne glasses to a little bag of rice. But hey, I’m entitled. You can make anything from your wedding and reception into a precious memory. I even made sure when I bought the wedding favors gifts for our friends and families that I bought one extra, so I could have it for my memory box. So you see, I’ve got just about everything you can imagine from my wedding and reception as keepsakes.
It’s nice as time goes by to take them out and remember that very special day and all the people who shared it with us. I even had our written wedding vows put into frames and they are hanging in the living room, right next to our wedding picture. Some people may say I’m a fanatic about my wedding memorabilia, and maybe they are right, but they are very important to me and I wouldn’t part with any of it. I have three boxes and one whole dresser full of keepsake wedding gifts and I planned to have them for years to come. Maybe when my daugher finds the man she wants to marry, she can use some of my wedding accessories in her ceremony. That would be so awesome to see my daughter walking down the aisle in my wedding dress holding my bouquet, and creating memories of her own to hold on to.
Maybe some day her closet will be filled with memory boxes of keepsakes from her wedding and reception. Oh, and fyi, I have two more boxes of memories from our honeymoon.
